Reseña/Review: Lip Monthly’s July Bag

Digo esto con orgullo: ¡Soy adicta a los productos para labios! En parte de ahí se deriva mi frustración con ipsy y Birchbox en el pasado cuando no me han mandado suficientes labiales. Incluso, soñaba con que hubiera un sistema de suscripción de ese tipo de productos solamente. Por suerte, los dioses me escucharon y hace unos meses descubrí en Instagram a Lip Monthly, que se dedica a enviar mayormente de 4 a 5 productos labiales y alguna muestra de maquillaje o de una fragancia en tamaño normal o de muestra, todo dentro de una cartera para cosméticos.

I say this with pride: I’m addicted to lip products! Part of my frustration with ipsy and Birchbox comes from that fact, since in the past they haven’t sent me enough lip products. I even dreamed of a subscription service that would only send these kinds of products. Luckily, the gods listened to me and some months ago I discovered Lip Monthly on Instagram. This company sends 4 to 5 full size or sample size lip products and makeup or fragrance sample, all inside a cosmetics bag.

Primero que nada, debo destacar que cuando me uní a este servicio cobraban $10.00 mensuales por recibirlo. Sin embargo, este mes Lip monthly anunció que el precio aumentará a $12.95 (lamentablemente), pero que los que se habían suscrito antes (como yo) seguirán pagando $10.00. Otra cosa es que no me gustó que no me enviaran adelantos (sneak peaks) de lo que yo iba a recibir. 

First of all, I must highlight that when I joined this service they charged $10.00 monthly. However, some days ago Lip Monthly notified that they had increased the price to $12.95 (unfortunately), yet the people who had previously subscribed (like me) would keep paying $10.00. Also, I didn’t like the fact that they didn’t send sneak peeks of what I was going to get.

Ahora, ¡vamos a lo que vinimos! Me encantó muchísimo el Lord & Berry Crayon Lipstick en la tonalidad Fire. El color es anaranjado tirando a rojo, dándole así un toque retro. Este labial no reseca, tiene un olor agradable, se ve precioso y es fácil de aplicar.

Now, let’s get down to business! I really loved the Lord & Berry Crayon Lipstick in Fire. This shade is orange with a hint of red, which makes it look retro. This lipstick isn't drying, has a nice smell, looks beautiful, and it’s easy to apply.

Antes de recibir mis muestras, me fui a Instagram a ver qué le habían llegado a otras personas. Me emocioné un montón cuando vi que a varias les llegó el Milani Lip Intense Lip Color en Violet Addict porque lo tengo en la mira hace tiempo. Yo tenía una esperanza en el fondo de mi alma (como cantaría Selena) de que me llegara ese producto (y más cuando me iba a salir gratis). Sin embargo, me llegó su primo: el Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss en Sweet Grapefruit. Esto me dejó con sentimientos encontrados. Hace meses había comprado este gloss pero en otro color (Coral Crush) y aunque es muy lindo, la fórmula es bastante pegajosa (aunque hay glosses más pegajosos todavía) y al unir los labios el color se rueda hacia abajo en el labio inferior. El que me enviaron, Sweet Grapefruit, es un rosado delicado, pero que a la vez le da vida a los labios y los hace ver carnosos. Obviamente tuve los mismos problemas con la fórmula, pero lo usaré para ciertos momentos (o sea, cuando estoy en casa). Aparte de eso, me alegré de recibir un producto de Milani porque soy super fan de sus Color Statement Lipsticks (¡tengo 9!), sus sombras y sus rubores.

Before getting my samples, I went to Instagram to see what other people had received. I got really excited when I saw that many people got the Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Violet Addict because I’ve had my eyes on it for a while. I really hoped to get that product (and even more so when I was gonna get it for free). However, I got its cousin: the Milani Brilliant Shine Lip Gloss in Sweet Grapefruit. This left me with mixed feelings. Some months ago I purchased this same gloss but in another shade (Coral Crush) and even though it’s very pretty, the formula is very tacky (although there are tackier glosses) and when you put your lips together the color runs down on the lower lip. The one that I got, Sweet Grapefuit, is a delicate pink but at the same time it makes lips more alive and full. I obviously had the same problems with the formula, but I’ll keep using for some occasions (in other words, while I'm at home). Besides that, I was happy to get a Milani product because I’m a huge fan of their Color Statement Lipsticks (I have 9 of them!), eyeshadows, and blushes.

Mi mayor decepción de este Lip Monthly es el Mica Tinted Lip Balm en Velvet Rose por su fórmula. El color es un rosado/rojo muy bonito y hace ver los labios como si una se hubiera acabado de comer un puñado de berries (¡un efecto que me encanta!). Lamentablemente, aunque dice que es un “lip balm”, no tiene nada de balm, pues es ridículamente reseco y tan pronto me lo puse sentí resequedad y molestia. Realmente no entiendo por qué se siente así, pues nunca había tenido este problema con un balm y se supone que no pase.

My biggest disappointment of this month’s Lip Monthly is the Mica Tinted Lip Balm in Velvet Rose because of its formula. Its shade is a beautiful pink/red that makes the lips look like one just ate a bunch of berries (which is a look that I love!). Unfortunately, even though it says that it’s a “lip balm”, it doesn’t feel at all like a balm. It’s ridiculously over drying. As soon as I applied it, I felt an awful dryness and it bothered me. I really don’t understand why it feels that way, since I’ve never had this problem with a balm and it’s not supposed to happen.

El Harvey Prince Sincerity Mini Roller me gustó mucho. Tiene una fragancia agradable y limpia, aunque no dura mucho. La usaría para aquellos días en los que quiero ponerme una fragancia liviana. Tiene notas florales y de maderas.

I liked a lot the Harvey Prince Sincerity Mini Roller. It has a nice and clean fragrance, although it doesn’t last long. I would use it for those days in which I want to wear a light fragrance. It has floral and wood notes.

En conclusion... / In conclusion...

¡Lip Monthly se queda en mi vanity tray! Claro, menos el supuesto “lip balm” de Mica. Me gustó la variedad de marcas y el bolso para cosméticos. Pienso continuar suscrita para el próximo mes. Solamente espero que incluyan los sneak peaks en las redes sociales o vía e-mail.

Lip Monthly stays on my vanity tray! Of course, except the alleged “lip balm” from Mica. I liked the variety of brands and the makeup bag. I will continue subscribed for the next month. I just hope that they will show sneak peaks on social media or via e-mail.
